About Us

Medical Advisor and Director Brigadier General István Kopcsó
Changes in the global context in which NATO is involved pose new challenges to the medical community to provide the medical support needed to meet the range of operational requirements. NATO and Partner Nations' increasing operational involvement in disaster relief, stabilization and post-conflict reconstruction has impacted on the scope and the scale of deployable medical capabilities over the last decade, with the resulting implications for medical planning and capability development.

Medical support to operations is the primary focus of the ACO Medical Advisor. ACO Medical Directorate coordinates and provides functional guidance to the ACO sub-ordinate commands.

ACO MEDADs business processes include ACO battle rhythm events and ACO's activities. Both include events that involve ACO and SHAPE's interaction with other headquarters such as: JFC Commands, Component Commands, HRF HQs, HQ-NATO, HQ-SACT, COMEDs workgroups/expert panels, with NATO and Partner Nations and with ACOs Operations and Missions. ACO's battle rhythm events include: the ACO Medical Group meetings and ACO Medical Group VTCs.
